Databases
21/4-
So far I only know that databases are big storage files including lots of information. It can be referred to as being a big book where you can go to any page you want, to find the information quickly and easily.
22/4-
From today's lesson I now know how to produce a table for a database. I also feel more confident with using microsoft access as I have a few more skills than I had yesterday. I found that the learning guide helped a lot as it took me step by step through the process of making a database.
23/4-
Today I learnt even more skills to making a database. I am finding that the tutorial is the best way in learning the skills. At the moment i am struggling with understanding why we do some of the things we do in order to make a database but hopefully they will become clear on Tuesday. I am also feeling a bit ore confident with making a database.
28/4-
Today has been the most useful day for learning about databases so far. Today i learnt the most about databases. I found it a lot easier to follow along with Miss Harvey teaching us the techniques in developing a database. I now understand how a basic database is set up and used. After today I think it will be easier to produce databases.
29/4
Today we again worked on databases skills as we prepare for our SAC for next thursday. Today I learnt how to make a report in Microsoft Access. It is actually a lot easier than I had expected. I am still finding it easier to learn the databases skills when Miss Harvey is teaching them to us. I will hopefully then learn how to make queries and then I will then be ready to sit my SAC.
30/4
Today we worked our groups to make the canteen menu into a database. I found this to be hard today as my group members all had different ideas and I found it really difficult to then produce one database. I am still not understanding how to produce queries but hopefully another member of my group will be able to show me on Tuesday.

Today I learnt how to make queries. This was my biggest difficulty within the databases. I learnt how to make them by using the tutorial. I Now feel confident for my SAC. The only thing I now have to work on is producing forms.
7/5
Today I think I learnt the most valuable thing in order to complete my SAC to the highest standard. We learnt how to bring it all together, the analysis, design, production and evaluation. Along with this I also learnt how to produce the queries, forms, reports and tables together as a whole and I am now really confident with producing a database.
19/5
Today I finished my database. I feel really happy with what I acheived. I went from not knowing how to use Microsoft Access to now producing an effective database that I am very proud of. I feel really good about what I produced and I hope that my results will reflect that.
Programming 25/6/09- Today was the first day where I began to produce my game. I am so far having a bit of trouble in programming certain aspects of my game. Although that this is happening I am still feeling confident with using Game maker and I will hopefully overcome the problem. 14/7/09- Today I overcame the biggest problem. My game was not working correctly. I had tried everything with the help of many other students but still there was nothing to be done. With about five minutes left of class I came across the problem and managed to fix it. It was the easiest thing to fix when I discovered what it actually was. I now feel so much better about my game and I think it will be a success in the end. 15/7/09- Today I struggled to make any progress as the system was down. This caused my game to be lost many times as the game wouldn’t save. Although my game didn’t make any progress I believe I learnt more skills as I had to re-enter the programming in. This was a bit frustrating but when it comes to technology, you can’t always rely on it. 16/7/09- Today I made a lot of progress with my game. It is now functioning correctly and appears to be part of a game. The one thing I struggled with was getting my objects to sit correctly in the spaces. I hope to fix this problem during my next lesson. 21/7/09- Today I made a lot of progress with my game. It now has a main menu that allows the user to read instructions and to access the game. I feel really happy with my game so far and especially because I had little experience with game maker. For the next couple of lessons I plan on producing more levels and adding challenging tasks. Today I stayed completely focused on my game and I didn’t get distracted at all. Today I also got others to test my game to give me feedback which will help my decision making in the future. 22/7/09- Today I didn’t feel like it was a very productive day. I think this was because we only had an hour and once you get settled and logged on, you are basically leaving again. For my next lesson I plan to be testing my game a lot and making sure that it is all functioning correctly. 23/7/09- Today I had lots of help off the people in my class. I had a couple of people test my game to them give me suggestions and feedback to help me improve my game. Alex was able to help my snowman to move throughout the maze correctly without any glitches. Today I also was able to stay completely focused which allowed me to add a lot to my game. 28/7/09- Today I finished my game. Besides finishing my game I found it difficult as there were many distractions in class today. I have now decided that I didn’t have too much time left to produce my game and complete the rest of the outcome. I now can focus on writing my report on careers in IT and make to produce my learning log in an electronic format. 29/7/09- Today I didn’t really achieve anything. All I got done was some decision making for the programs that I will use for my feedback and report. It didn’t help that the two programs I chose to use, didn’t work correctly. I plan on collecting all of my research and information and then completing the report and feedback at home with the preferred programs. 30/7/09- Today was a very successful day. I managed to complete my game and test all the aspects of it. I also finished the feedback forms for the students to fill in. I am now ready for Tuesday when the students will play my game. For the weekend I have decided to work on report in order to get the outcome finished. Today was really good as I had no distractions and I was able to stay focused throughout the whole lesson. 4/8/09- Today was when we had the grade four students come and test our games. It was amazing to find out that the students actually loved our games and wanted to keep playing them. It was also great to see that my game was successful and it was worth the effort I had put into it. For the future the only thing I would change about my game was the difficult questions. I had underestimated the ability of grade ¾ students. Overall my feedback was great as all the students said that they enjoyed playing the game and that they would like to play it again if they had the chance. 5/8/09- Today Miss Harvey sat us down at the beginning of the lesson and told us that all of the work we have done is due tomorrow. My heart sank because I realised that I am defiantly not ready to hand my report in yet. So panic set in.
